Mrs. Samuel Lambert, who lived all of her lifetime in Waseca County, passed away at her home 416 Second Avenue, northwest, Monday afternoon, May 1 at 4:30 o'clock. While she had been poorly for the past two years, she had recovered from a serious illness of last fall. Sunday, she suffered a stroke which caused her passing on the following day.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 o'clock from the Sacred Heart Catholic church with Rev. John Gregoire officiating. The pall bearers will be John McGannon and Mark Elliott of Waseca, and Thomas Eustice, Ray Nolan, Harry Dumbeck and Roy Heagerty of Janesville. Burial will be in St. Ann's cemetery in Janesville where she will be laid to rest beside the graves of her three children.
Bridget McHugo was born in Janesville township, May 25, 1879 and would have been 65 years of age had she lived until the latter part of this month. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McHugo, Sr., early settlers in the Janesville community. She grew to womanhood in Janesville township and upon completing her education she taught rural school in her home district. Later, she taught in the Weckwerth district in Wilton township.
September 30, 1903 she was united in marriage to Samuel Lambert of St. Mary. The ceremony was performed at St. Ann's Catholic church in Janesville with Rev. Patrick Ryan officiating.
The couple took up housekeeping on the groom's farm in St. Mary township where they made their home for 37 years. In the fall of 1941, they decided to retire from the farm and following an auction sale of their personal property, they moved to Waseca where they have since made their home.
Six children were born to this marriage and three of them survive their mother. Three children preceded her in death. On August 16, 1921, Agnes died at the age of seven and the following day, Francis passed away at the age of four. A son, Joseph, died July 24, 1931 at the age of 27 years.
Surviving, besides her husband, are three children, namely, Mrs. Floyd Dumbeck (Mary), Janesville; Mrs. Lowell Mitchell (Helen), Pasa Roble, Calif.; and Hannah, who teaches at Madelia. Two sisters, Mrs. James Foley, Mankato, and Mrs. Emmet Flynn, Minneapolis; a brother, Thos. McHugo, Waseca, and three grandchildren also survive.
