Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Charles Howard Conrad was born December 6, 1916, in Osceola, the son of Kirbie and Mabel Webster Conrad. He died peacefully in his sleep on July 1, 1993, at his home in Clinton at the age of 76. He was drafted into the United States Military on August 11, 1942. He served in Hawaii and Okinawa. On November 22, 1944, he married Louise Swift. He continued his military service and was honorably discharged on January 11, 1946. In the early years of their marriage Charles and Louise made their home and farmed in northern Missouri near the community of Hatfield. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Jean, and a son, Kirby. Later they moved to Harper where for 15 years they operated a general store. He was employed with the Hendrich Brothers Implement Company as a tractor mechanic for 26 years, retiring in 1979. After retirement he enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of the Northeast Baptist Church and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Louise, of the home; one daughter, Jean Collins of Independence; a son, Kirby Lee Conrad of Olathe, Kansas; one sister, Janet Darrow of California; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Kirby and Murray Conrad, and a sister, Neva Conrad Hall. Funeral services were Monday, July 5, 1993, at the Consalus Chapel in Clinton. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
