JOHN AND ELIZABETH (BECKER) SCHULTE

This story starts with the marriage of Elizabeth Becker and Albert Baatz. They had two children: Anna, who married Hubert Schaefer, and Alberta, Mrs. Henry Rupiper. Later years Albert Baatz died of tuberculosis and Elizabeth married John Schulte who lived near Fordyce, now the Joe Sudbeck farm. They drove to church in St. Helena with horse and buggy and when Bow Valley built a church, they came to Bow Valley.

They had nine children: Mary, Mrs. August Hochstein; Rose, Mrs. John Hochstein; Ida, Mrs. Edward Arens; Clara, Mrs. Joe Arens, and her twin brother Casper, who married Lucy Peitz; and John (P.J.), who married Elizabeth Arens. They also had three children who died at an early age: William, Elizabeth (died age 17), and Mathilda, age 3 years.

Then Mrs. Schulte died and John married Theresa Hochstein. They had nine children. Alphonse married Viola Buschelman; Rudolph married Lucina Becker; Erna married Bill Hoeschen; Art married Martha Lammers; Alvin died; Alma married Al Grage; Cordula; Elizabeth married Joe Leise, and her twin, Mathilda, married Reinhold Hartmann.

The Edward Arens family remembers Grandma coming with the girls to visit them with the horse and buggy. The two families had a very close relationship.
