JOSEPH P. KRAY
Joseph P. Kray, age 88, of Hammond, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adele (nee Furgal); one son, Gerald P. Kray; two sisters: Mary Krajewski and Ann (late Clarence) Dumke; one brother, Frank Kray; sister-in-law, Valerie (late John) Krajewski; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his infant daughter, Peggy Kray; parents: Albert and Sophie Krajewski; sisters: Bernice (late Walter) Buczkowski, Louise (late Frank) Penkala, and Helen (late August) Jures; and brother, John (Valerie) Krajewski.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond (two blocks east of Hohman, one block north of Gostlin) for a 12:00 noon Mass at St. Casimir Church with Rev. Vladimir Janeczek officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00- 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Kray was a retired employee of Inland Steel with 24 years of service, and a former employee of Amoco with 17 years of service.
He was a member of the Hammond Mohawks (services Friday at 6:00 p.m.), the American Legion Allied Post 369 (services Friday at 6:30 p.m. and conducting military funeral rites on Saturday). Joe was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served with the 36th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. Joe was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Rhineland, Bronze Star Central, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a very loving husband and father, and will be deeply missed.
