Kathleen Maguire, an actress who won an Obie Award in 1958 for her performance in ''The Time of the Cuckoo,'' died of cancer of the esophagus on Aug. 9 in Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was 64 years old and lived in Manhattan.

She studied under Sanford Meisner and Lee Strassberg and emerged in several noted performances during the 1950's. She won an Obie Award in 1958 for the role she played in "Time of the Cuckoo", which was an off-Broadway play. She made her film debut in 'Edge of the city". She was also known for two roles in two short lived soap operas on television, first as wealthy widow, Kate Austen on A Flame in the Wind; and as extremely conservative doctor's wife, Adrian Sims on the series A World Apart. For the last 20 years of her career she played in television soap operas. Among her film credits is the 1963 picture Flipper. She appeared in several episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. A favorite performance for that series is called "Guilty Witness".

She retired in 1984.

She has no survivors.
