Emma G. Schmielau, 74, passed away Thursday, April 20, 1933, in Treynor.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 23, at the Schmielua home, followed by services at 2:00 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor, with Rev. Wagner officiating the services. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Treynor, Iowa. Cutler's Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Emma Gertrude Suchsdorf was born April 15, 1857, in Albertsdorf, Island of Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Koch) Suchsdorf. She immigrated to the United States to Pottawattamie County near Treynor, Iowa. She married Jurgen Theodore Schmielau on February 16, 1878, and together farmed in Hardin Township. They were the parents of five children, Margaretha, George, John, Anna and Emma Schmielau. Jurgen preceded her in death on April 9, 1908.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaretha Heckman and Emma (Charles) Altrock; two sons, George (Dora) Schmielau and John (Katie) Schmielau; and 22 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Anna Behrends, one grandchild, one son-in-law, Bernard Heckman, five sisters, six brothers and twin siblings who died in infancy.
