Mr. Lawrence David Worley "Blackie" Allison, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.

He was born in Saltville on Dec. 2, 1912, the third of 10 (and last surviving) child of John Henry and Della Hurley Allison.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ola Wright Allison; three brothers; and six sisters.

He was a retired employee of the Olin Corp. and a member and past president of the Saltville/Rich Valley Lions Club. He attended Friend's Community Church in Saltville and First Church of God in Allison Gap.

Survivors: four sons, Carlis Allison and wife Sue of Abingdon, Bobby Allison and wife Elizabeth, Saltville, Ron Allison and wife Sheila, Saltville and Roger Allison, Saltville; four granddaughters, Mrs. Trey (Kristie) Jennings, Marion, Mrs. Chad (Karla) Holmes, Abingdon, Rona Mitchell, Saltville and Kari Allison, Abingdon; and four great-great-granddaughters.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in the Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. David Mumpower officiating. Pallbearers will be Stanley Bays, Bobby Wright, Jerry Wright, Kevin Stanley, Tommy Prater and Ronnie Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Brickey, Charles Asbury and the men of the Saltville/Rich Valley Lions Club. The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saltville Rich Valley Lions Club.
