Mr. Walker went up to Alliance about four weeks ago for a short visit with his daughter and while there word came of his sickness and later of his death, which was quite a surprise to many of his Exeter friends, although he was quite advanced in years.
Mr. Walker was born in England, October 12, 1821 and came to America and settled in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in 1851 and after a residence of twenty years there moved to Fillmore County, Nebraska with his family and settled on a farm on Turkey creek.
Mr. Walker had been making his home in Exeter at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. L. McLeese and his death leaves quite a vacancy in the home circle. His children, who are left to mourn his loss are Mrs. Hannes and Will Walker of Geneva, Robert Walker of Hayes County, Mrs. J. L. McLeese of Exeter, Wilson Walker of Burress, Mrs. Shanklin of Alliance and Mrs. Wells of Alexandria.
The funeral services were held at Geneva on Tuesday, May 19, conducted by the Methodist minister of that city, of which church Mr. Walker has been a very ardent member. The remains were interred in the family lot in the Stanley Cemetery in Chelsea Township.
