RIPE SHEAVES GARNERED
Mrs. James Logan Dies at the Age of Eighty-two
LEAVES 8 LIVING SONS AND 4 DAUGHTERS
A Saintly Woman Beloved by All
As peacefully as a child falls into sleep Mrs. James Logan passed to the other world Monday morning. One week before she was stricken with apoplexy and failed to regain consciousness. For half a century Mrs. Logan has been one of the well known characters of this community, a woman regarded by her neighbors and tenderly loved by her large family. She was born in Scotland June 4, 1834. Twenty years later she was married to James Logan. The same day of their marriage they sailed for America and located near Polo, Ill. Mr. Logan then enlisted in the war and served until the close. Soon after the family came to north Tama, and located on a farm six miles southeast of Traer, where some members have lived every since. Mr. Logan died July 26, 1890, and a few years ago the widow came to Traer to live. To the honored couple fourteen children were born. One of them died in infancy and another in mature life. The latter was the wife of John Campbell, and passed away twenty years ago. Twelve children survive, eight sons and four daughters, namely: John of Bradgate, Iowa; James, of Pekin Ill.; Mrs. Katie Reed and Horace , of Rockwell City, Iowa; Mrs. John Everts, of Windsor, Mo., Frank, of Estherville, Iowa; William, Abe, Robert, Charles, Mrs. Ed. Stoakes and Mrs. Garfield Powell, all of Traer. There are twenty-seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Logan was one of eleven brothers and sisters. Two brothers and one sister survive her; Archibald Maxwell, of Long Beach, Cal.; James Maxwell, of Sterling Ill.; Mrs. Thomas Shanks, of Eldorado, Mo. One of north Tama's most unselfish, faithful, dutiful mothers has entered her reward. She was a Christian woman. She was deeply devoted to her family and it was delightful to observe the almost worshipful devotion returned by them. When her daughter dies she expressed the hope that she might go before another child was taken. Her prayer was granted, although she lived to be nearly eighty-three years old. The funeral services were on Wednesday afternoon, in the Congregational church in charge of Rev. Miles. A large number of relatives and friends were present.
