Earl "Red" Young, 93, of Hawesville died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at his home with his children at his bedside. He was born on May 22, 1917, in Hawesville to the late Louis and Minnie Young. He was married to Gladys (Perry) Young for 66 years at her time of death in 2005. He loved farming and hauling cattle for people. Red loved his children, his grandchildren and going to Bill's on the Hill. He is preceded in death by his wife, grandson Keith Horsley; two great-grandsons, Aaron Newton and C.J. Edwards; brothers Oliver, Roy and Louis; and sisters Marie, Pearl and Elizabeth.

Survivors include three daughters Jean Newton and husband Danny of Lewisport, Fay Horsley and husband Robert of Hawesville and Debbie Hacker and husband Dave of Bloomington, Ind.; a son Donnie Young and wife Sandy of Hawesville; 13 grandchildren, Gary Newton, Dana Gorman, Larry Newton, Rodney Newton, Carolyn Edwards, Marcia Huffines, Alicia Wedding, Lavonne Staley, John Hacker, Glen Young, Karrie Raley, Jeromy Young and Brad Young; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hendricks.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Eden Baptist Church Cemetery. The family of Red will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Saturday. Online condolences may be left for Red's family at www.gibsonandsonfh.com.
