The fourth child and second daughter born to Mary C. Proaps and Frank E. McAtee. The family moved to Ellsworth, Kansas and back to Wakenney. When she was 13, the family moved to the Sacramento area settling in Carmichael. She dropped out of high school and married Albert Rodgers and was the mother of Kay Cecilia, Catherine Mae, and Frankie Albert.

She worked for 20 years in a winery in Sacramento and in 1976, she and Albert divorced. She married Kenneth Stinton in February 1977 in Reno, Nevada. They remained in the Sacramento area until retirement and they moved to Reno. They remained there until she became ill and they moved back to Antelope near her daughters, Kay and Catherine. She passed away of heart failure and was cremated and her cremains were given to her family.
