Funeral Sunday for
George Gardner who
lived here 40 years
Funeral services for Geo. Gardner, a resident the last 18 years in the home of his niece, Mrs. Grace Butler north of Villisca, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Eno & Sutphen funeral parlors here, with the Rev. W. F. Clayburg pastor of the local Methodist church, in charge.
Mr. Gardner died at 8:15 a.m. Friday at the age of 79 years after 40 years spent in this vicinity. Interment was made in the Villisca cemetery.
Mr. And Mrs. Albert P. Davie sang at the last rites, accompanied at the piano by Miss Miriam Kimball. Pallbearers were Sam Gardner, Frank and Leonard Butler, Frank Selley, Lewis Patton and William Loper.
Relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Lowenburg and daughter Clara May, Mrs. Axel Larson and Miss Jessie Gardner of Anita, Iowa, and Mrs. Mable Baldwin and son Orville of Bloomington, Ill.
Born in Yorksville, Ohio, April 19, 1856, George Gardner was one of a family of eleven children of whom only one, L. D. Gardner of Farmington, Ia, remains. He came to Iowa about forty years ago, had since been a resident if this community and had resided since 1918 at the home of his niece, Mrs. Butler. He joined the local Methodist church in 1925.
Among the nephews and nieces he leaves Lewis Patton, L. K. Gardner and Mrs. Butler, Villisca; Mrs. Roscoe Lowden, Farmington, Iowa, Mrs. Axel Larson, and Miss Jessie Gardner, Anita, Iowa; and Mrs. Mable Baldwin, Bloomington, Ill.
