David was the son of Peter Epler. He married Margaret Uncapher on 28 Apr 1828 in Marion, Marion, Ohio. They had 12 children, all born in Marion, Ohio. He tried to enlist at the age of 61 in the GAR during the Civil War, but was deemed too valuable in the county government.

David Epper, 87, who died 4 May 1889 was born in Reading, Pa., 20 April 1802. He moved with his parents when he was very young to Harpers Ferry, Va. where he lived till he was 21. He then moved to Marion, Ohio where he lived for about ten years. He was sheriff of the county for ten years. On 17 April 1828 he married Margaret Uncapher with whom he lived for over 61 years. They resided in Shelbyville, Ill. for one year and Alton for three years and they had made their home in Macon for twenty-four years. He was the father of 12 children of whom 6 survive.

David Eppler, the oldest person in Macon, died at his home here last Wednesday, May 8, aged 87 years. Mr Eppler was born in Reading, Pa., April 10th, 1802. When he was quite young, his parents moved to Harper's Ferry, Virginia. At the age of 21 years he went to Marion, Ohio, where he lived until 1863. He was sheriff of Marion county, Ohio, for ten years, having been elected to that office five terms. He came to Macon City twenty years ago and made this his home ever since. In 1838 he was married to Margaret Uncaphor. There were twelve children in the family, six of whom are now living. The funeral took place on Thursday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m. and the remains were interred in Oakwood cemetery. Although at the ager of 87 years his death will not be a surprise to many, yet there are all over the country a large number of acquaintances who will learn with regret the news of his heath. Mr Eppler had 15 grandchildren and 11 great grand children.
