--Occupation: Farmer & Merchant. He served as Postmaster in Concord in the 1830s. He was Register of Deeds for the County 1839-1840. He served 4 terms as a justice of the local Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions. He was the first Chairman of the Cabarrus County Schools, serving from 1841 to 1847. He served as Cabarrus County Commissioner 1877-1878
--He wrote the first history of Cabarrus County.
--He was a trustee of Davidson College from 1870-1874.
--member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Concord.
--He married Sarah Phifer on May 31, 1842 in Cabarrus County. They had 5 surviving children:
