Blanche Pauline Thompson, 97, a resident of Nampa since 1946, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at a local care center. Blanche Thompson was born on Aug. 17, 1908, in Rolla, Mo., the oldest of three children, to Pete and Josie (Clark) Shubert. The family moved to the Oklahoma panhandle and homesteaded during the dustbowl days, growing wheat and maize. She married Cecil Frank Thompson on May 9, 1926. Her father, Pete, officiated at the ceremony in the Shubert home. In 1927 the family moved to Camas, Washington. In 1943, Cecil and Blanche purchased Kelley's Restaurant in Camas. They operated it until 1945 when they sold it and purchased the Theater Lunch, also in Camas. Blanche worked in both eating establishments. In 1946 the family moved to Nampa. Blanche worked many years in the dining hall at Northwest Nazarene College, but her primary occupation was in raising her two sons, Harold and Cecil A. Blanche enjoyed watching people, crocheting, and cooking magnificent family dinners. She was a dedicated Christian and a longtime member of the College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa.
Blanche is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Thelma Thompson, Boise, and Rev. Cecil A, and Joyce Thompson, Olympia, WA; a brother, Flav Shubert, Texhoma, OK; five grandchildren, Erikka, Melissa, Codi, Devin, Ashley, Zane, Jenna, Jeremiah, Seth, Jeffrey, Melinda, Ashlie and Janelle; and two great-grand-grandchildren, Brandon and Victoria. Her loving husband of 55 years, Cecil, preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Pat, and her special granddaughter, Brenda Williams.
