GEORGE S. BEIMDIEK

George S. Beimdiek, Carthage, MO died on November 8, 2007 in McCune-Brooks Hospital at the age of 94.
Mr. Beimdiek was born March 23, 1913 in Carthage, the son of George S. Beimdiek, Sr. and Ida B. Brinkerhoff Beimdiek. He was a graduate from Carthage High School in the class of 1931. In 1935, he graduatedd from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a B.S. degree in business administration. He was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Following graduation from college he was commissioned a second lieutenant int he United States Army Reserve.

On September 18, 1935 he married Geraldine Hafner Buescher in Columbia, MO.

From 1935 to 1937, he worked in St. Louis with the brokerage firm of Gatch Brothers, Jordan & McKinney. In 1937 he returned to Carthage to become president of B-V Realty & Investment Company, a firm engaged in real estate, loans and insurance.
In 1937, he joined Carthage Rotary Club and served as president from 1941 to 1942. In 1938, he became a director of Central National Bank (now United Missouri Bank).

After World War II started, George was called into active duty. He served with the 103rd Infantry Division from 1942 to 1946, in the European Theater. When the war ended, he held the rank of lieutenant colonel. Although he returned to his business in Carthage after the war, he remained active int he Army Reserve. In May 1956, he was promoted to the rank of full colonel. He performed two week active duty assignments at the Pentagon from 1959 to 1965. In 1966, he retired fromt he Army after 30 years of service.

After the war ended, George returned to Carthage again to become active in business and civic affairs. In 1948, he became a director of Jasper County Savings and Loan (later First Security Savings and later Home Savings) where he served as vice president. He was president of the Carthage Chamber of Commerce in 1961 and 1962.
In 1962, the insurance division of B-V Realty and Investment Company, where he had served as president, was separated and operated as Beimdiek Insurance Agency, an independent insurance agency. In 1959, he became director of Leggett & Platt, Incorporated. He was active in Grace Episcopal Church, where he served as senior warden and vestryman. In 1968, he was awarded the Bishops Medal for work in the Episcopal Diocese of west Missouri and the local Carthage church. In 1975, he retired as director of the United Missouri Bank after 37 years of service. In 1985, he retired as director of Leggett & Platt, Incorporated after 26 years of service. In 1986, he retired from Home Savings after 38 years of service. Other business and civic activities in which he participated includes;
*past president of the Carthage Independent Insurance Agents Association
*past director and treasurer of the Salvation Army Advisory Board
*chairman of the Carthage united Fund and director of Advanced Gifts
*director of the YMCA
*member of Citizens Advisory Committee for the City of Carthage
*past president of Broadview Country Club
and
*past president of Carthage Industrial Development Company.
*He also served as board member of the state of Missouri Consumer Finance Association for 17 years

His wife of 57 years, Geraldine, died March 3, 1992.

On August 21, 1993, he was married to Amelia Cordonnier in Springfield, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2007.

Survivors include a
a daughter;
Carolyn Phelps and her husband, Pat

a son;
G. Stephen Beimdiek and his wife Mary Jean
all of Carthage

a sister;
Martha Adair, of Covington, Kentucky

five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren

Funeral services were held at Grace Episcopal Church

Arrangements were handled by Knell Mortuary, Carthage
