John E. Wright is the son of Alvah 'Alvin' Wright and his wife Delphine 'Della' Wait. John attended the Nichols public schools, then Staunton Military Academy at Staunton, VA, and Cornell University. At Cornell he became involved in the reserve officer's training corps. He worked at IBM for a number of years, but when the United States joined the war, he enlisted in the Air Corps. On December 5, 1942, he married Miss Jean I Love. They had one son. John was killed in a tragic air crash in England while serving his country, having met his son only briefly.
