Obituary
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27, 2010 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Melancon Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas for Antoine Bajat, Jr., age 81, who passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 12:12 p.m. at his residence in Opelousas.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. The Rev. James Brady, pastor of St. Landry Roman Catholic Church of Opelousas, will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace, J'Irai La Voir Un Jour, and How Great Thou Art.

Mr. Bajat was a native of Grand Coteau and a resident of Opelousas for the past twenty years. He was affiliated with and was an employee of the Bank of Sunset for thirty five years. He served as Sunset Town Councilman for three terms, was a former Sales Exec with Washington Life Insurance, and was a member of The Drainage Board Dist #1, Ward 2 for twenty eight years. Mr. Bajat served honorably in the National Guard. He was a prominent property owner in both St. Landry and Lafayette Parishes and will be remembered for his business expertice and his willingness to share business principals and ideas with others and will always be very appreciated. His friendly visits and history stories will be greatly missed. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Velta Bajat of Opelousas; two sons, Steve Bajat and his wife, Sheri, of Sunset, and Sammy Bajat and his wife, Cindy, of Grand Coteau; one stepson, Keith Pitre and his wife, Michelle, of Port Barre; one stepdaughter, Desiree Robison and her husband, Joe, of Opelousas; eight grandchildren, Brendon Bajat, Trent Bajat, Britney Olivier Bajat, Erin Coney and her husband, Brad, Matthew Robison, Stacey Robison, Jacob Pitre, and Hannah Pitre; and one great grandson, Bennett Coney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine Bajat, Sr. and Eula Boss Bajat; and his first wife, Marjorie Hornsby Bajat.

Pallbearers will be Steve Bajat, Sammy Bajat, Trent Bajat, Matthew Robison, Keith Pitre, and Joe Robison. Honorary pallbearer will be Brendon Bajat.

Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road was in charge of arrangements.
