The record of A.H. Baie, an enterprising and highly respected farmer of State Center Twp., demonstrates that where there is a will there is a way and that obstacles to success may be overcome by courage and self-reliance.
Mr. Baie was born in State Center Twp., Marshall Co., 06 Apr 1865, and he has lived in this locality all his life, having been an active participant in its great development, practically all of which has taken place during his life
time. He has always followed farming.
He is the son of Andreas Baie, who was born in Germany on 19 Apr 1828, and who is now residing in the town of State
Center, this county, advanced in years, he having been one of the well known early settlers here. He married Wilhelmena Meisterschmidt, who was born in Brunswick, Germany, 25 Dec 1830, and who came to DeKalb Co., IL,
in 1856, and died in State Center Twp., this county, 05 Apr 1902.
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Andreas Baie,
Albert, born 30 Mar 1860, lives in State Center Twp.;
Mrs. Emma Hayne, born 18 Dec 1861, residing in State Center, IA;
Edward, born 06 Jul 1863, lives in Spokane, WA;
A.H., of this review;
Henry, born 26 Feb 1867, lives in Oklahoma;
the oldest child, named Rosetta, was born 07 Mar 1859, and died 19 Dec 1880;

A.H. Baie was married 20 Feb 1894, to Susie Barry, who was born in Clinton, IA, 04 Jul 1871, the daughter of William Barry, who was born in Ireland and who is at present making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Baie, in Eden Twp. He married Maggie Mulharren, who was a native of Ireland, and
whose death occurred 21 Oct 1910. She was a good woman and had a host of friends, as has also Mr. Barry. They were the parents of three daughters and two sons, namely:
James is living near Rhodes;
Edward lives in Boone, Iowa;
Mrs. John York lives in State Center Twp.;
Katie lives in Polk Co., IA;
Mrs. Baie, wife of the subject. She also has four half-brothers. The Barry family came to Marshall Co. about 1874.
Three sons and two daughters have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Baie, namely:
Alta, born 11 Nov 1895, died 2 May 1889;
Leo, born 12 May 1898, lives at home;
Ida, born 21 Apr 1900;
Elmer, born 07 Apr 1902;
Raymond, born 08 Oct 1904;
they are all attending school at Rhodes.
Politically, Mr. Baie is independent, preferring to vote for the best man rather than for the party. Mrs. Baie is a member of the Catholic church at Rhodes. They have a cozy, well furnished home, in which is to be found the best literature of the times. They take a widespread interest in all things that tend to upbuild the community. Their farm of one hundred and twenty acres in Eden Twp. is
well improved and is well cultivated and very productive.
