Samano, Specialist 4th Class, Stephen Paul, age 20 years, born February 16, 1968 in Lancaster, passed away during field practice on August 10, 1988 in West Berlin, Germany. Stephen graduated from Quartz Hill High in 1986 and was serving his country with the United States Army. He had been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal which is awarded to soldiers for meritorious service and acts of courage by General Marsh and an Army Accomodation Medal. He was qualified as an expert on rifle and mortar. He is survived by his mother Maxine and step-father Augustin Morales; brothers: Warren and James Samano, Tony, Angel and Augustin Morales; sisters: Elaine and Kathy Samano and Becky Morales all of Lancaster; fiancee Mary Garcia and five nieces: Josephine Robles, Desiree Samano, Aurianna Ruiz, Patricia Samano and Stephanie Lucero. He was pre-deceased in death by his brother Wayne in 1983. Friends may pay their respects 4-8PM today, August 18, 1988 with Rosary Devotions at 7PM in Murphy Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Friday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery.
