James Throck Morton, son of Polly Ann and Jester Morton, was born April 1, 1855, in Johnson Co., Iowa. His death, at the age of 86 years, nine months and 25 days, occurred January 26 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Kay, at Wells, after an illness of several weeks.
In 1876 he was united in marriage to Ida Caroline Brown. To this union six children were born: Mrs. Morton and three children, Syliva, Jettie and Nina – preceded him in death. The surviving children are Mrs. Clayton Campbell, Minneapolis, Mrs. Frank Kay, of Wells and Goldie C. Morton of Minneapolis. He is also survived by three sisters – Mrs. Laura McKean, Topeka, Kansas; Mrs. Ruth Riley, Hastings, Nebraska; and Mrs. Victoria Baker, Hermosa Beach, California; and one brother, Charles A., of Lawton, Oklahoma. There are 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren besides other relatives and a host of friends.
Mr. Morton, with his family, moved to Kansas in 1878. He spent the greater part of his life on a farm near Minneapolis, retiring and moving to that city in 1908.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, January 28, burial being made in Highland Cemetery.
