Jane "Jean" Gibson was the daughter of Walter Gibson and Margaret Jordan. She was born in 1742 in Bladen Co, NC. She married Joseph Hardin on 7/8/1762 in Henrico Co, Virginia Colony. They soon moved to the Salisbury District (now Rowan Co) of the North Carolina Colony settling in the newly formed Tryon Co, NC Colony (just formed out of Mecklenburg Co), where he became Justice of the Peace in 1772. They were the parents of 14 children:

Benjamin II and Robert II were named after older brothers who had been lost in battles with Native Americans. Jane Gibson Hardin died on 3/25/1817.
