The cause of Genie's death is uncertain but family has said that she died of pneumonia or more tragically that she and her son Osca died within days of each other due to a rabid cat scratch/bite. She was buried at Quitman Cemetery (Odd Fellows). Due to a flood there, her gravesite is uncertain as it was thought to have washed up. There is no gravestone. My great grandmother Lillie used to go the cemetery searching for her mother but never found her.
