U.S. Senator. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1888, studied law at the University of Iowa, was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced to practice law in Wahoo, Nebraska. Moving to Boise, Idaho, he practiced law and was the district judge of the fourth judicial district of the State of Idaho in 1901. In 1912, he was appointed as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Weldon B. Heyburn, serving until 1913. After leaving office, he resumed the practice of law in Boise, moved to California in 1923 and continued the practice of law until his death.
