On Oct 20, 1964, at Deer Lodge Hospital, Melville Joseph Porteous, aged 51 years, formerly of 467 Strathmillan Road. Mr.Porteous was born & raised in Winnipeg. He enlisted with the RCAF in 1941 and served overseas from 1944 to 1946 attached to the War Crimes Commission in Germany. Mr.Porteous was a very active member of the St.James Legion Number 4 Branch. He was an ardent horseman in his early youth, first associated with the Silver Heights Riding Academy. Following his war service he continued as a trainer on the Western circuit Mr.Porteous was active in all sports with a special interest in hockey. For the past 7 years Mr.Porteous had been employed with the Town of Tuxedo. Surviving are 3 brothers, Gerald, Donald & James, 4 sisters, Edna & Frances Porteous, Mrs.C. Porteous (Corrinne), Mrs.H.Janz (Alela), 22 nieces & nephews, & 6 grandnieces & nephews. Prayers will be said Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the Park Lawn Mortuary, 1858 Portage Ave. Requiem High Mass will be sung Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St.Paul the Apostle, with Reverend Father H.J.Stengel officiating. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends desire donations may be made to the Cancer Society.
