Peter married about 1832 and immigrated to the USA from Prussia(Germany) with his wife Margaret Maas or Mais, son Martin, daughter Margaret and brother Nicholas' family in May of 1852 arriving June 1st on the Meridian via Liverpool. His burial site is unknown. He swore allegiance on 10/22/1868 at 59 years of age and was naturalized a U.S. Citizen 10/29/1870, see document on left. One report showed that he was buried in the Johnstown Cemetery but no burial stone has been found yet. It is possible that he was stored in the Johnstown vault until he could be buried elsewhere when the ground thawed. Family lore suggested that he came from near Koblenz on the Mosel River. However the manifest showing his origin was found about 2012 and then this writer traveled to the wine growing region on the Mosel River where people with the German name of Schupp still live. His death certificate file # in NYS Lib is 33379. The cert. states that he died at 84 years 10 months 11 days. His son Martin apparently did not know the names of Peter's parents. Research shows Peter as the son of Johann Nicolaus and Anna Catherine Steimer Schupp. Their Germany surname Schupp has been spelled in various ways here.
