Corporal Samuel Shaefer served in the Civil War in the 90th Regiment Ohio Infantry.

Enlisted in Company I, Ohio 90th Infantry Regiment on 28 Aug 1862. Promoted to Full Corporal on 01 Jan 1864. Mustered out on 13 Jun 1865 at Camp Harker, TN.

After the war, he married Elizabeth Andrews on February 14, 1866 (Valentine's Day).

Samuel and Elizabeth had 6 children: Cora (1867-1951), Earl (1869-1929), William (1870-1927), Ines Vida (1875-1876), Tina (1876-1950), Edna Pearle (1881-1961).

Samuel died on his anniversary and Valentine's Day Feb 14, 1898.
