Charles L. Hux, 74, of Longmeadow, a retired assistant manager for Penn Central Railroad's Flex-Van Sales and Services of Worcester and Boston, died on Sunday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
He worked for the company for 32 years, and retired in 1979. In 1965, he was named the company's top salesman in New England.
Born in Prichard, Ala., he lived in Bristol, R.I., and Arlington before moving to Longmeadow 23 years ago.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater.
He was a member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, the Springfield Traffic Club and the Providence and Berkshire Traffic Clubs. He also belonged to the Longmeadow Masonic Lodge.
He leaves his wife, the former Angela Garapic; two daughters, Carol Mahoney of Nutley, N.J., and Pamela Leslie Hux of New York City; two sisters, Mary Havens of Greer, S.C., and Sheila Sloan of Memphis, Tenn., and a grandchild.
The funeral will be Friday morning at Hafey East Longmeadow Chapels and St. Mary's Church, with burial in Longmeadow Cemetery . Calling hours will be on Thursday afternoon and evening.
