Charles Jacob "Charley" Cantonwine was the son of Abraham and Elizabeth (White) Cantonwine and the grandson of Charles and Mary Magdalena (Scholl) Cantonwine.

They had three children, Josephine, Claud, and Leona. Some years after the birth of Leona in 1900, Charles and Bessie divorced. In Sept. 1913, Bessie married Samuel Skelton in Vigo Co., Indiana.
