Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a First Sergeant in Company D, 4th East Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at McMinnville, Tennessee on October 3, 1863. His citation reads “Went to the aid of a wounded comrade between the lines and carried him to a place of safety”. His Medal was awarded to him on June 11, 1895.
