Bessie Louise Smith, 84, of Waco, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 at Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Ivan Ker officiating. Interment will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p. Sunday afternoon.
Bessie was born Feb. 17, 1919 to Henry and Maggie Payne Stubblefield. She loved to cook and was always known for her ability to make plans for family get togethers at her home. Bessie had a talent for quilting and she passed her quilts on to her family as heirlooms. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Bradford Smith in July 1981; daughter, Doris Hodges in November 1999; brothers, Charles, Cecil and Ray Stubblefield; and sisters Loretta Rachui and Oma Bridges.
She is survived by her children, June Powers and husband, Earl of Valley Mills, Aubrey Smith and wife, Reba of Waco, Jeaneen Terell and husband Jack of Whitney, Don Smith and wife, Dot of Waco and Roger Smith and wife Patsy of China Spring; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; brothers, Fred, James and Wilburn Stubblefield; and sisters, Clara McDonald and Odessa German.
