Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. During the Philippines Insurrection, he served as a Lieutenant, in the 4th US Infantry. On July 2, 1901, at Majada, Philippines, his unit was halted by a insurgent gun position. Lieutenant Greer charged the enemy post alone with a pistol, killed one, wounded two and captured three others with all their weapons. For conspicuous gallantry in action, he was awarded the Medal of Honor in February 1902. He remained in the Army retiring a Colonel.
