He married Sarah Jane Fennimore on September 30, 1844 in Muscatine County, Iowa.

"On Tuesday of last week, August 6, 1890, Hiram Chenoweth, of Perrysville, an old and respected citizen of that town, passed beyond the shores of time. The deceased was born December 17, 1815, in Pike County, OH, and at the time of his death was 74 years, 7 months, and 11 days old.

He had been a resident of this county since 1823 or 1824. In the spring of 1888 he fell and fractured his hip, which confined him to his room for a short time. Shortly after he was able to get up and around, he was thrown from a buggy, fracturing his shoulder blade, and again last spring while walking around he fell, and being unable to help himself, and no one near to assist him, he lay on the cold, damp ground for quite awhile, taking a severe cold from which he never recovered. He leaves 4 children, all grown.

The funeral occurred at 4 o'clock on last Thursday afternoon, Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the M.E. Church performing the last sad rites. His wife died 20 years ago.

The deceased was modest and retiring in his manner. He had the love and respect of all who knew him. In his business relations, he was always careful to merit and maintain a reputation for strictest integrity. He was one of the noble men of this county, and in his death Perrysville has lost one of her good citizens." - Newport Hoosier State, Wednesday, August 13, 1890 (Obituary provided by Carolyn Schwab)
