The Funeral of Samuel Machette.

The funeral of the late Samuel Machette took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family residence, No. 808 Penn street. Rev. Dr. S. M. Neel, of the Central Presbyterian church officiated. The honorary pallbearers were Robert T. Van Horn, Charles E. Kearney, Michael Hoffman, E. F. Rogers, and S. C. Ragan; and the active, Ross Guflin, George W. Jones, M. Dively, Silas E. Ratekin, R. H. Drennon, and John T. Blake. Many flowers were sent by friends. The burial was in Union cemetery.

In 1817, Samuel's father Charles, at age 21, moved from New Jersey to what became St. Charles, Missouri four years later. He was a merchant. Samuel's mother Abigail died when Samuel was seven years old and his brother Charles was five.

His father then married Margaret Jane Bruin. Their first child, Alexander Machette, lived in Kansas City where he was a Presbyterian minister who later became a Baptist and was minister of Westport Baptist Church. Alexander was buried in Sedalia, Missouri.

Samuel married Susan Catherine Jarboe (b. 1842, Missouri, daughter of Joseph Jarboe (an early Kansass City pioneer and prominent businessman) and Lydia Ann Clements Jarboe, on 6 Sep 1859, Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.
