Charles Polk Graham, 80, retired Bridgewater postmaster, died Tuesday afternoon at the University Hospital in Charlottesville. Mr. Graham had not been well for the past five years and had been critically ill two weeks.

He was a son of the late Henry B. and Martha Gilly Graham and was born Sept. 11, 1884 at Jonesville. He graduated from Emory and Henry College and taught for several years prior to attending the University of Virginia where he obtained his masters degree.

Mr. Graham taught for several years at Bridle Creek and Rural Retreat and then moved to Bridgewater and taught in several Rockingham County high schools, including Bridgewater.

In 1948 he became Postmaster at Bridgewater. He held the position until he retired in 1955. Since his retirement, he had served as town assessor.

On Aug. 8, 1917, he married Miss Olive Delp. The couple celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this year.

Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Garner of Fairfax and Mrs. Virginia Gentry of Elkton; five sons, Charles Hale Graham of Sterling, Bruce M. Graham of Fairfax, Ray J. Graham of Hagerstown, Md., George L. Graham of Arlington and Henry B. Graham of Ft. Meade, Md.; and 24 grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bridgewater Methodist Church by his pastor, the Rev. James Luck. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
