Gary H. Addington, 60 peacefully passed away June 14, 2008 at his residence after many years of complications from diabetes and a brief battle with cancer.
Gary was born in Bristol VA. He attended schools in Wise County and Kingsport. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennet High School in 1965. He attended Tennessee Wesley University and graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1983. He worked at Eastman for a few years; went into sales and finally property management at Miller crest Apartment in Johnson City; retired in 1992 due to his health. Gary loved all sports and had a cap for all his favorite teams.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel and Faye Addington; paternal grandparents, George and Maude Addington; maternal grandparents, Lee Roy and Ona Hicks (Sr.); brothers in law, Larry A. Fleming and Charles Staten; uncles- Joe Hicks, Sr. and wife Christine, Lee Roy Hicks, Jr. and Ralph Whetsel; and an aunt, Allie Hutchinson and her spouse, Garnie; father-in-law, Robert L. Staten and step-father-in-law, Arthur Fields; and several aunts and uncles.
Gary's is survived by his wife, Peggy Staten Addington, a son, Steven and wife, Libby; a step-son, Danny Street; two grandchildren, Abbie Addington and Katie Cooter; a sister Linda Fleming; a brother Robert Addington, Sr. and wife, Janice; a special aunt, Nell Whetzel and other aunts, Shirley Addington, Louise McDevitt and Jim; and Billie Hamm; uncles, Rex Hicks and friend Nancy Johnson; Emory Hicks and Geneva; Ezra and Margie Hicks; and George and Bernice Addington; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of Gary Addington's life was held in the Sunrise Chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Ponder and Mr. Bobby McClintic officiating. Music was under the direction of Mr. Wes Taylor. Interment was conducted in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
