Ruby Magee was born on Aug. 7, 1884, near Johnstons Station, Miss. She attended the public schools in Columbia, Miss., and Grenada College in Grenada, Miss.
After teaching music for several years, she married Meriwether William Gabbert of Senatobia, Miss., and they lived there for the remainder of their lives. They raised five children and had twelve grandchildren.
The Gabbert family's activities centered around their beloved First United Methodist Church and the civic and cultural affairs of the community. For many years, when her family was growing up, Mrs. Gabbert was superintendent of the children's division of the church's Sunday School. In addition, she was a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service and was instrumental in establishing Bible study and prayer groups. She was a capable vocalist and instrumentalist and gave freely of her time and talent to her church and the Cosmopolitan Club, of which she was a member. She loved flowers and spent many happy hours in her garden.
Mrs. Gabbert died on June 17, 1963, in Memphis, Tenn.
