Mr. Hines was born of March 15, 1918 in Atco, Georgia, the son of Walter Hines and Lois Shiflett Hines. He worked for the City of Rome from 1963 until 1984 as a department foreman. Mr. Hines was a gardener, giving away most of what he raised. He was an avid fisherman and Braves fan and coached youth activities in little league baseball and football. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Hines was a member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F & AM and of the McDonald's afternoon coffee club. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Bud Hines of Rome, F.A. "Puddin" Hines of Rome, Robert Russell Hines of Cedar Bluff, AL, Doug Hines of Rockmart and Kenneth and Kendall of Lindale; one sister, Hazel Scott of California.
Survivors include his wife, Frona Sue Thomas Hines, to whom he was married to on April 14, 1944; two sons, Eddie (Carol) Hines of Rome and Michael (JoAnn) Hines of Acworth; two daughters, Laura Susan DiPrima and Lesley (Roland)Hines Tucker both of Rome; grandchildren, Jeff Hines, Cyndee Ferguson, Christy Pledger, Wintson Hines, Justin Hines, Richard DiPrima, Jason DiPrima, and Nick Tucker; great grandchildren, Jessica and Trent Ferguson, Cameron and Grayson Hines, Brinnon and Matthew Hines, Chloe Pledger and Matthew and Dylan DiPrima.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm , Thursday, June 3rd in the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Stockton officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Cherokee Lodge #66 F & AM in charge of graveside rites. There will be a called communication of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge, #66 F & AM Thursday at 1:00pm for the purpose of attending the services of Mr. Hines.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 Thursday and include the following, Jeff Hines, Richard DiPrima, Winston Hines, Greg Pledger, Mike Ferguson and Jason DiPrima. Honorary pallbearer will be Nick Tucker.
The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Hone, 2542 Shorter Ave., Rome has charge the funeral services for Mr. Clifford Otis "Joe" Hines.
