Matthew L. Vierling, 22, of 4511 71st St., Urbandale, died Sunday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center following injuries he suffered as a pedestrian in a hit-and-run auto accident. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Windsor Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member, and the body will be cremated following services.

Mr. Vierling, a credit reporter for Equifax Services and a freelance artist, was born in Tokyo, Japan, and lived in Des Moines for 21 years. He formerly was a singer with the rock group Onyx.

Surviving are his father, Lewis, and his mother, Linda (Knapp) Vierling, both of Urbandale, three brothers, and his grandparents, Howard and Ossie Knapp of Salisbury, N.C. and Bruce and Marge Vierling and Fred and Marie Deeds, all of Des Moines.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sunnyside or the Iowa Head Injury Foundation.
