DEATH OF MISS ALICE BENEKE, RITES MONDAY
Miss Alice Beneke, 86, prominent Carthage resident, died at 9 a.m. today at the home of her niece Mrs. George E. Phelps, 1601 Grand Ave
In failing health several years, Miss Beneke's condition had been critical the last week.
She was born September 19, 1879 in St. Louis. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Beneke came to Carthage in 1900 from Clinton, MO. Miss Beneke received her elementery and high school education in Clinton and later was graduated from Chicago University. She taught history and home economics in Carthage Senior High School several years.
Miss Beneke made her home with her sister, Mrs. Cora Beneke O'Keefe. John O'Keefe, following the latter's husband John O'Keefe. Mrs. O'Keefe died September 22, 1963, and since last May Miss Beneke had been at the home of her niece, Mrs. Phelps.
She was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church
Surviving are Mrs. Phelps
three great-nephews;
John O. Phelps, assistant prosecuting attorney for the eastern district, Jasper County
George Phelps, Jr. of Dallas, Texas and
John O'Keefe, a professor at Fenn School, Concord, Massachusetts
a great-niece;
Mrs. Sheila Todd of Far Hills, New York
Funeral services were held at Grace Episcopal Church
Rev. Canon Vincent C. Root, recotor officiated

A picnic and a dance were given last night by Miss Marie Davey for her guest, Miss Florence Boyce of Brooklyn. The invited guests were:

Entertained Club and Guests.
Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Durham entertained the Matrimonial club and a number of invited guests in a most delightful manner at their pretty home on south Main street last night. Bid euchre was the feature of the evening, Mrs. W. S. Crane and F. W. Steadley proving most proficient and winning the ribbons.
At 10:30 a dainty lunch was served at the card tables.
Those present besides club members were Messrs. and Mesdames W. S. Crane, F. W. Steadley, W. K. Caffee, A. F. Beneke, Paul Davey, Capt. A. B. Deutsch, Mrs. C. W. Rinehart, Misses Cora and Alice Beneke.
A graphophone added to the pleasure of the evening, with music and amusing speeches.
