JEFFERSON - - Lester R. Eastlake, Sr., age 83, of Jefferson, died Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center.

He was born December 20, 1923, in Andover, the son of Melvin and Louise (Cobb) Eastlake Sr., and had been a lifelong Ashtabula County resident. He attended Andover High School and then entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II, before being honorably discharged.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Ashtabula County Highway Department. He previously worked as a crane operator for the New York Central Railroad.

He was a past member of the Richmond Grange and the American Legion, Neal Post # 743, North Kingsville. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, dancing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joeanna C. (Madden) Eastlake, whom he married November 10, 1944; three daughters, Lois Ann (Dennis) Chapman of Lodi, Virginia, "Ginny" (David) Lockwood of Jefferson, and Carol (Tom) Sullivan of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, Wendy Knox, Kelly Sokolowski, Jason and Kristen Ewing, Tricia and Scott Eastlake, Brent Thomas, Stacy Welser, and Ashley Sullivan; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Evelyn Mae Taft of Jefferson, Marietta Totten of Cortland, Betty Arkenburg of Ashtabula, and Hazel Pachkoski of Chula Vista, California; one brother, Charles Eastlake of Chugiak, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lester Ray Eastlake Jr.; two brothers, Harold Eastlake and Melvin Eastlake Jr.; one sister, Norma R. Meadors; and his parents.

A Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with military honors being held at the conclusion of the service by the Geneva VFW Post #6846. Pastor Ed Pickard will officiate. Burial will be in Williamsfield Center Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be held at the Funeral Home Tuesday, February 13, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
