Betty J. Heller, 85, wife of the late James Heller for 59 years, of Royal Oak, MI and formerly Lathrup Village, MI, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010.

She was born in Detroit, MI on July 3, 1924 to the late Albert Gatzke and Margaret (Sievert) Gatzke. Betty graduated from Northwestern High School in 1941. She would marry Jim Heller on May 8, 1948. She was the love of Jim's life.

Betty and Jim traveled the world together, mostly visiting friends that were at all points of the globe. They visited China, Hong Kong, all over Europe, South America, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina to name a few. Betty will always be remembered by her family for traveling with food. She always seemed to have Ju Ju Bees by her side.

When they weren't traveling, Betty loved to be with her family. Her kids were her life. She and Jim bought a cottage in East Tawas in 1954 and she and the kids have many great memories of spending summers at the lake.

One of her greatest passions was music. She was an incredible singer who always had music involved in her life and in her children's lives. One of her claims to fame was singing with the Buffalo Bills and playing Marian the Librarian in Music Man. Music was her thing. She was very active at one point in the choir at Calvary Lutheran, sang in high school at Northwestern High School, Messiah Lutheran in Detroit, the Kenneth Jewell Chorale, and at Community Congregational in Lathrup Village. She was active in Lathrup Village in the bridge club as well as the Women's club.

Betty was survived by her five children: Margaret Rosenkrands, Arnot B. II (Catherine), Christine Preston (Jim), James (Maria) and Elizabeth Verville (Troy). She was also survived by 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two on the way. Betty was the sister of the late Dorothy Newman and Robert Gatzke.
