Sylvia Sevits Dies At 83; Services Set

Sylvia May Sevits, 83, of Rt. 2, Kirksville, died at eight o'clock this morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cleve Adams.

Born Aug. 27, 1893 in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Elbert and Martha Houston Bell. On Dec. 31, 1913 in Adair county, she was married to Cyrus E. Sevits who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1975. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, James Bell, Leland Bell, Raymond Bell, Ivan Bell and Kenneth Bell.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Cleve (Jaunita) Adams of Rt. 5, Kirksville; one son, Wendell V. Sevits of Rt. 2, Kirksville; four grandchildren, Wayne Adams, Winfred Adams, Kendell Sevits and Terry Sevits; seven great-grandchildren, Pamela, Mark, Matthew, Debra and Dale Adams and Christopher and Jeremy Sevits; three sisters, Annie C. Buchanan of Greentop, Thelma H. Sanders of Kirksville and Helen M. Barnett of Queen City and two brothers, Ross E. Bell of Greentop and Gerald L. Bell of East Detroit, Mich.

As an infant, Mrs. Sevits moved with her parents to the Stahl community. She was a graduate of the Novinger High School.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Sevits moved to the state of North Dakota, where they lived until 1919, when they moved to the Hazel Creek community in Adair county. For the past few months Mrs. Sevits had made her home with her daughter east of Kirksville.

Mrs. Sevits was an active member of the Hazel Creek Union Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher many years. She also worked with the young people of the church.

Mrs. Sevits was well-known in the Hazel Creek and Mulberry communities where she cared for the sick and was midwife.

After 10 o'clock Saturday morning the body will be at the Johnson Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Hazel Creek cemetery.
