John Amos Rothrock was the seventh of ten known children of Philo Rothrock (1821-1876) and Ellen Permelia (or Priscilla?) Burnett Rothrock (1821-1876), who married on 13 Sep 1840 at Crawford County, Indiana. After Ellen died, Philo remarried to Caroline (Carrie) Thornberry (1856-1917) on 26 Feb 1885 at Harrison County, Indiana and had an additional three sons.
John married Hannah Catherine (went by Kate) Burgess (1857-1948) on 16 Nov 1879 at Harrison County, Indiana. John and Kate were the parents of five known children, namely:
1. Estella D. Rothrock Harmon (1883-1962)
2. Zetta Blanche Rothrock Boldt (1885-1969)
3. Noble Henry Rothrock (1887-1950)
4. Earl Cranston Rothrock (1889-1979)
5. Nelson K. Rothrock (1893-1990)
