We had just lost our previous cat, Inky, who we had to euthanize the day after Thanksgiving. While looking at the cats being offered up for adoption, Goldie reached a paw through her cage and patted my shoulder as if to say "Pick me!" and we did even though we had gone there thinking we'd get a much younger kitten.
We brought her home bundled in a towel on my lap while Mom drove and when we were about 5 minutes away from home when she had an episode of diarrhea!! A bit of a rough start but certainly not her fault.
That evening I went out to a Christmas party with my co-workers and Goldie slept in a corner of the bathroom while I was in there getting ready like a calm little kitty.
The following morning, Mom was having second thoughts about our choice because Goldie was a hellion while I was at the party, climbing the curtains and jumping on tables, knocking things down in the process.
She settled down after a few days and once she discovered 'the great outdoors' she was a very happy cat. She hunted field mice and similar small critters (moles, voles or shrews), leaving her "trophy's" under the front end of both cars in the driveways or on the sidewalk near the front door.
