James was a native of Ireland, he immigrated to the American colonies on a ship bound from Dublin to Philadelphia. that ship was the George & Ann and sailed on May 20th, 1729. The ship's captain in an attempt to rob from the passengers kept the ship at sea for an extended time causing starvation and disease to run rampant. When a passing ship spotted and boarded them, they found about half the passengers had died. The Captain was arrested and sent back to England where he was tried and found guilty upon which he was hung, drawn and quartered. James moved to Barnstable and chose John Bacon Jr his guardian and was made an apprentice to a Blacksmith. On June 22nd, 1738, he married Mary O'Kelly daughter of Benjamin O'Kelly and Sarah Walker. They lived in Barnstable, Massachusetts for 30 years. They removed in the spring of 1755 to Granville, Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their daughters Rose & Catherine accompanied them. James died in Nova Scotia and is buried in Stoney Beach Cemetery, Granville Beach, Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada.
