                        MARRIED.

SPENCER—FERRIS—On Wednesday morning the 9th inst., in this city, at the residence of Wm. Ferris, father of the bride, by the Rev. C. A. Conant, HALSEY J. SPENCER, of Hamlet, Chautauqua county, N. Y., to Miss LILLIAN J. FERRIS.
The ceremony took place at 5 o'clock a. m. and the happy couple took the morning train for the east, intending to make a short pleasure trip and return, when Mr. Spencer proposes to take up his abode with us and engage in business in Brainerd, satisfied that our prospects, in view of the certain early completion of the Brainerd branch and the extension of the Northern Pacific west this season, are good. We heartily welcome Mr. Spencer to our little city, confident, if he is worthy of the matrimonial prize he has drawn, that he will be a valuable acquisition to our business and social interests. (Brainerd Tribune, 12 May 1877, p. 4, c. 2)

Mrs. H. J. Spencer nee Miss Ferris, is visiting her parents and friends in Brainerd, and Mr. Spencer, who is a stockholder in the Brainerd Bank, is expected to follow soon. (Brainerd Tribune, 10 July 1880, p. 1, c. 3)

A Brilliant Reception in Which Many

Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Ferris and Mr. and Mrs. N. McFadden delightfully entertained their friends on Tuesday evening at the Arlington hotel. The spacious parlors and halls, which had been especially arranged for the occasion, were filled to overflowing and the large dining room was thronged with a merry party of dancers who tripped the light fantastic. Cards were indulged in by those who did not care to dance and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves to their utmost capacity. At 12:30 a sumptuous luncheon was served after which the festivities were renewed and continued until 2:30 o'clock at which time the guests departed. The occasion was the society event of the season and many people from out of town were present among whom were:
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Keyes, Minneapolis; Mrs. James Cane, Fargo; Mr. and Mrs. George Ames, St. Paul; Mrs. J. L. Smith, Minneapolis. (Brainerd Dispatch, 18 November 1892, p. 4, c. 5)
