Dewey Pressman Plumb died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at 7 a.m. at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., with family by his side.

He was born June 4, 1930, in Snowflake to Pressman Moses Plumb and Unice Victoria Salling.

Dewey was proud to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War. He served from 1952-54 in the First Regiment/21st Infantry and was honorably discharged in 1954.

On Sept. 21, 1959, Dewey married Peggy Ann Coffey. Dewey and Peggy made their home in the White Mountains of Arizona. Dewey worked in the logging industry all his life. He worked 20 years at Southwest Forest Industries as a head mill right, from which he retired.

In 1987 Dewey and Peggy moved to Southwest Colorado, which they called home ever since. Even after retirement Dewey enjoyed getting out in the woods and cutting firewood.

Among his favorite pastimes were hunting, roping, watching his western channel and rodeos, riding his four wheeler around with his trusty sidekick Polly riding on back, and spending time with his family.

Dewey was a dedicated husband and father. Growing up, a child couldn't ask for a better father and role model. He was always there to offer a hand during life's ups and downs.

Dewey was always willing to help someone in need whether they were a family member or a complete stranger. He was a very hard working, kind, honest and sometimes ornery man. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pressman Moses Plumb; mother Unice Victoria Salling; sisters Birdie Lou Robinson and Iva Gene Plumb; brother JM Plumb; and his beloved Australian shepherd, Polly.

Dewey leaves behind his loving wife, Peggy Plumb; brother Jack Plumb; sisters Cleo Salter, Pearl Eaton and Nova Thompson.

He also leaves behind children Cindy Williamson, Debbie Stanley, David Plumb, Dale Plumb and Dennis Plumb; grandchildren Bryan Kohout, Nick Kohout and Connor Stanley; and four great-grandchildren.

Dewey will be cremated and his ashes placed at the Veterans' Memorial in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
