Joseph E. Higdon

Age 86


Joseph E. Higdon, 86, retired laborer, of Wax died Sept. 16, 1978 at Grayson County War Memorial Hospital.


He was born February 8, 1892 in Grayson County, the son of John R. Higdon and Elizabeth Mudd Higdon, and the husband of Carrie Bell Smith Higdon. He was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church.


Survivors other than his wife include three daughters Lois Alvey of Clarkson, Pearl Higdon of Indiana and Nora Higdon of Elizabethtown; seven sons Willard Higdon and Robert Higdon both of Clarkson; Frank Higdon and Dewey Higdon both of Indiana; George Higdon of Wax; Wayne Higdon of Leitchfield and Virgil Higdon of Summit; 69 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services were held Sept. 19, 1978 at St. Benedict Catholic Church by the Rev. Carman DeChristopher with interment in St. Benedict Cemetery.


***NOTE: Obit lists parents as John and Elizabeth Higdon but actual parents are Robert and Mary Higdon. Story goes that when his mother passed away, Joe and his siblings were "farmed out" to relatives to raise.
