James L. "Onze" Riney, 67, of Rural Route #1 Canton, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 1988, at 11:05 a.m. at Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. The son of John H. and Kathryn McGuire Riney, he was born at St. Patrick, Missouri, on March 26, 1921. He was united in marriage to Anna Verlee Pugh at St. Patrick, Missouri on July 3, 1943, and she survives. Also surviving are one son: Stephen L. Riney of Burlington, Iowa; two daughters: Mrs. Jens "Amy Kathryn" Notestein, Stronghurst, Illinois, and Mary Ann Riney of Keokuk, Iowa; one brother: Donald E. Riney of Canton, Missouri and one sister: Mrs. Margaret Merrell of rural Canton, Missouri; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick and was retired from Hubingers at Keokuk, Iowa in 1981. He was also a World War II veteran. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 31, 1988, at 11 a.m., at the Shrine of St. Patrick, St. Patrick, Missouri, with Rev. James Wheeler officiating. Organist was Marie Brennan and soloist was Lorene Ellerhoff. Pallbearers included: Brian Notestein, Brad Notestein, Steve T. Riney, Ron Martins, Jamie Riney, James Baker and Jens Notestein. Burial was in the St. Patrick Cemetery. Rosary services were held on Friday evening, December 30, at Shaffer and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
